Environmental Conservation
Wildcliff is a
nature reserve which welcomes visitors with a strong interest in
conservation and the outdoors. Only 20 minutes from Heidelberg in the
Western
Cape, the reserve can be easily reached in a morning's drive from Cape
Town,
with time to stock up at the local supermarket en route. Guided tours
are
available with our resident naturalist.
The self-catering
guest house "The Weaver's Nest" sleeps four people. It has two
bedrooms, one with a
double bed, and one with two single beds; a well-equipped kitchen,
linens and towels, a full
bathroom, dining room/small living room and veranda.
Rates: R400 a night for the cottage for one
to two people. R100 per night for each extra person
Two night minimum
The view is wonderful, up
through the kloof with its original afro-montane forest, and up to the
ridge of
mountains of the Langeberg. The reserve abounds with bird life, and the
local
troop of baboons provides much entertainment to onlookers with their
antics.
With 2300 acres to explore, and several
road/trails to hike, the naturalist
will delight in discovering the various dams with their variety of
amphibian
residents, and watching the birds or bushbuck, river
otters, snakes, or , if he's lucky, a lynx.
The botanist will be in paradise as a short walk will take her into
fields of
fynbos, where she will find herself shoulder deep in proteas and ericas
and
restios.... The adventure lover will enjoy climbing down the
craggy
cliffs into the kloofs for a refreshing dip in the pools below the
stunning waterfalls.
Children will love the rope swing over the stream and a short walk
alongside
the river will bring them to pools they can splash about in.
